I’ve changed my mind about Shorts.
I haven’t been the biggest fan of Shorts for quite some time, but I’ve recently turned a corner and in this episode, I’m telling you why you might want to start creating Shorts if you haven’t already.
I never really felt like Shorts were necessary for growing a channel… maybe even harmful to your long-form content. Prior to the monetization of shorts (and even now that they are monetization… it’s pretty limited anyway), there wasn’t even a monetary gain from creating them.
But now, I think YouTube is starting to roll out more opportunities for people to consume Shorts and providing much more robust analytics for Shorts. As a creator, I’m finding that the opportunities for Shorts are getting better as far as exposing your channel to more people, and thus, bringing more viewers to your long-form content.
There is the argument that people who consume short-form content aren’t necessarily going to watch long-form content, but I really think that short-form content is here and it’s here to stay. YouTube is really the only platform that has mastered long-form content and that’s why people come onto it.
So should you be doing Shorts? If you’re called to do it, and you feel inspired to do it, then do it. If not, I recommend spending your time on long-form content. Don’t create it or go out of your way to do it if you don’t love it, don’t have fun with it, or if you find it draining. You don’t need to. But it’s something you’re already doing on other platforms, bring it over to YouTube!
