Marcela Barraza is the founder and owner of MB Green Cleaning, a cleaning service in NYC. A graduate of the hospitality administration and hotel management program, with more than 10 years of experience in the hospitality and travel industries, Marcela has established a solid record of impeccable customer service. Marcela was inspired to start her “green” cleaning service in 2011, after experiencing a series of maladies, including irritated skin and debilitating migraines, that she traced to the harmful chemicals in the cleaning products she used. After a few years in the cleaning business she started her Youtube channel Clean Casa in 2016. She then made it her mission to teach others to clean their homes without harsh chemicals while maintaining their spaces organized in a pretty yet simple way.
Before Marcela enrolled in my Bootcamp, she was at almost 80,000 subscribers after being on YouTube for about 4 years, but her growth was slow, and she wasn’t super consistent, even though she really enjoyed creating content. She felt like she didn’t have the tools to really expand, and she struggled with consistency because she was so busy with her business. It was almost like she couldn’t really fall into a steady rhythm in her channel.
During the pandemic, Marcela was about to turn 50, and she wanted to do something for herself. As a birthday gift to herself, she joined my Zero to Influence YouTube Bootcamp. She really felt like she had a message to share with the world, and that if she didn’t take the plunge then, she never would. In Particular, Marcela felt like she needed to have something to keep her accountable, and she needed to feel like she was part of a group where she could learn from others. A few months after joining the bootcamp, she realized that if she was learning this much from a group coaching call every other week, she could learn so much more and benefit so much more from 1:1 coaching. She set a goal to get to 100K subscribers and make back her investment in 6 months…. But reaching her goal only took a month and a half! She now has over 250,000 YouTube subscribers.
“I thought that I had a message to give, and I said, ‘this is it. I have to do it. If I don’t do it now, I will never do it.’”
You Can Never Know Everything
Marcela is a lifelong learner and firm believer that you can always learn something from somebody, regardless of their industry. Marcela has even learned from beauty YouTubers and applied similar strategies to her own channel. Even though so many of her fellow bootcampers had channels so vastly different from hers, she could still learn from them and apply what she’d learned to her own channel.
When you don’t know something, you can spend hours trying to figure it out on your own, and most people have neither the time nor the patience for that. Why waste that time when you can have someone coaching you and telling you exactly what you need to do? Be humble and know and accept that you don’t know something. We can’t all know everything! If you don’t know how to figure it out, there are people out there to help you. Get help from someone who knows more than you.
Commit to Yourself and Your Audience
Before joining the bootcamp and 1:1 coaching, Marcela really struggled with committing to a consistent schedule, and with the accountability she got from the program, she was able to change that. She started to take her channel more seriously. Within a month of coaching, her views and comments started to skyrocket and Marcela realized that she was reaching so many more people who were really appreciating what she was doing. Her hard work was paying off! After seeing her first spike, she realized it was all worth it. And with that consistency, she has been able to really develop a strong relationship with her subscribers.
But when it comes to consistency, you can tell people to be consistent, but it’s not just about quantity, it’s about quality too. Don’t just do it just to do it. Believe in what you’re doing, because people will sense when you’re not.
The Value of Having a YouTube Coach
We all know that the thumbnail and the title of a YouTube video are important… but a lot of people don’t tell you HOW to create them. If you don’t know how to do it, you’re going to spend countless hours trying to figure it out. Working with Erika 1:1 gave Marcela a step-by-step formula and helped her understand exactly how to make her thumbnails and exactly what titles to use. Coaching gave her the accountability to remain consistent, and the growth she has seen in her channel has given her sponsorship opportunities and PR exposure. Her mindset has done a complete 180, and her husband, who at first was not a huge believer in YouTube, has come around. Once Marcella hit 100k, she proved him wrong!
Final Thoughts
So how do you know if it’s time to try something new? If you keep doing the same thing over and over again, what got you where you are right now is not going to take you to where you want to be. Remember, it’s never too late. Marcela dove into YouTube in her late 40s, and hired a coach when she turned 50. You have to believe in yourself and really love what you’re doing. There’s so much to learn and there are so many resources, and regardless of niche, you can always learn from other people. You have to love YouTube to be successful, but the great thing about YouTube is that if you love it and if you are passionate about something, and if you remain authentic, there is space for everyone on YouTube.
“Everybody has a window here. Everybody can do it. And if you have passion, if you really love it, if you’re authentic, if you really connect with people, you can do great things with YouTube.”

MY FAVORITE BUSINESS TOOLS
Course Creation: Looking to create a course? Kajabi is the BEST platform hands down. I use this for my course after extensive research on all the other platforms.
Live Calls and Interviews: I use Ecamm for my podcast interviews, both audio and for YouTube that you see here on YouTube. It makes it super easy to share my screen and create the split-screen with my guest. I’m not super techie and this software is really easy to use!
Webinars and Live calls: I use Zoom.us for my group coaching calls in my private membership group for female YouTube creators. It’s also the software I use to record my Road to 100k YouTube Subscribers Masterclass!
THE BEST YOUTUBE/PODCASTING EQUIPMENT
After interviewing HUNDREDS of successful YouTube creators, these are the pieces of equipment that hands down get mentioned time and time again. You can’t go wrong with anything on this list!
- 4k Camera: Great for starting out and vlogging
- Lens: This lens is recommended highly by many of my podcast guests, it gives the blurry “YouTuber” background look.
- Audio: If you want to upgrade your set-up, audio should be one of the first investments (after a good camera). This microphone is unanimously the favorite amongst my podcast guests.
- Podcast/Voiceover Microphone: If you are looking for a great microphone for a podcast or video voiceover, this is it! This is the one that you see in all of my videos and the one I’ve recorded my podcast on for years.
- Webcam: For my interviews, that you see in my videos, this is the webcam that I use. Super inexpensive and easy to set up!
- Inexpensive Lighting Kit: Need to pick up some lights but don’t want to spend a ton? This is a great set that will get you started and help improve the look of your videos.
- Ring light: Looking for that beauty look? Invest in a ring light! This is an inexpensive light that does that trick!
