After 6 years of working side-by-side with thousands of YouTubers, I realized there are two things that people aren’t doing, whether they’re beginners or seasoned creators with hundreds of thousands of subscribers. I want to make sure you aren’t making the same mistake!
- Learn and read your analytics
I cannot begin to tell you how many people don’t do this. YouTube gives this to you wrapped up in a pretty little package! The data is there for you, and all you need to do is read it and apply it! You need to learn how to read your analytics, but YouTube makes it pretty simple for you. There are a lot of resources out there to help you learn.
I spend hours and hours of my time diving deep into data, but you don’t have to go as deep as I do. Just check your main page when you log in. It’s there for you to consume so you can better understand your viewer behavior and understand your audience. The better you understand your viewers, the more successful you will be.
Don’t think about your analytics as an afterthought… they are a necessity. Now, there is a caveat here. Yes, pay attention to your analytics, but don’t allow yourself to be consumed by analytics that they paralyze you or bring you down.
- Optimizing Your Videos
So what does that mean? Most people think SEO and keyword research. But guess what… that ain’t it! By optimization, I see it in the following two ways: optimizing for money and optimizing for views. To optimize for money, it’s about ads and video length. Optimizing for views includes making sure you’re adding the right cards and end screen videos, linking additional videos in the description, and pinning a comment! This is especially important for shorts. Pin those comments! You can pin a comment or link a card to a product you’re selling, or another video. Doing all this creates an ecosystem and it makes it easier for viewers to binge your content.
These two things aren’t hard, but most people just forget to do it! Are you studying your analytics and optimizing your videos?
