YouTube Advice that Will Transform Your Channel with Over 50 Youtuber Lisa Monique: The YouTube Power Hour Podcast 333
“My growth has been beyond my wildest dreams.”
Be sure to check out my Free 2022 YouTube Goals Workbook! Inside you’ll find you’ll find an exercise that I do with my clients and in my Bootcamp that will help you stick with and achieve your goals on YouTube. The journaling and reflection exercises in the workbook have three different components that we’re going to focus on: money, lifestyle, and mindset, and will help align your life goals with your YouTube goals to help create the 2022 that YOU want.
Lisa is a Virginia native who spent 12 years as an officer in the USAF. After marrying and settling down with her 2 young daughters, Lisa started her award winning photography business in 2009 and continued photographing high school seniors, families, pageant and executive headshots until she closed her business in 2021 to concentrate fully on her YouTube channel. Lisa currently splits her time between her Arizona home and beach condo in Florida.
Lisa got started on YouTube in 2019, sort of as a challenge to herself. She was a recent empty-nester, trying to think about what she would want to do next. She had a successful career as a photographer, but she had recently developed an interest and passion for mature beauty, and she had a two-year goal to replace her photography income within two years with YouTube.
Lisa Joins the Zero to Influence Bootcamp
Around 2 years into having her channel, she was at around 11k subscribers, and when she noticed a fellow mature beauty creator, Tamara of Tamara’s Timeless Beauty, getting a ton of views on her videos, she asked her how she was so successful. Tamara recommended the Zero to Influence Bootcamp and 1:1 YouTube Coaching, so Lisa joined the program, and within 9 months, Lisa had gone from 11k subscribers to 100,000. And that two year timeline she gave herself to replace her photography income? She was able to reach that in under 5 months.
The first part of the Zero to Influence bootcamp focuses solely on finding your YouTube niche and figuring out who your true fan is. Lisa was skeptical about it at first. After all, she already had her niche, she already had a pretty established channel, but she was surprised at how much that digging in the beginning of the program improved the quality of her videos immediately. Lisa’s first viral video came directly from using my R.E.D viral video strategy that she learned inside the program.
“Almost immediately after I joined the bootcamp, my channel started taking off.”
Lisa’s Biggest Breakthroughs
While the first half of the bootcamp is all about the deep dive into yourself, who you are and who your audience is, the second half of the bootcamp gets into the nitty gritty about thumbnails, titles, and SEO. Lisa struggled for a while with finding the right thumbnail style that meshed aesthetics with strategy. After going through the bootcamp and getting a ton of value from the facebook community and the group coaching calls, Lisa decided she wanted and needed a little more, so she started 1:1 coaching.
Lisa realized that even though she tries to stay positive on her channel, she realized that she could sprinkle in some videos that help her viewers what not to do, and what products don’t work that well, and those videos tend to do very well. She also realized that she couldn’t really get lazy or complacent just because she hit her goals. YouTube is a constant grind, and even though life gets in the way, the Bootcamp and the 1:1 coaching gave Lisa the skills and the tools to be able to regroup and step out of any funk she may fall into.
The Importance of Evergreen Content
Lisa’s #1 piece of advice for YouTubers? Don’t focus on going viral… focus on planning out and creating a library of evergreen content so when you do go viral. If you have a viral video, but nothing more for people to watch when they find you that is still relevant 6 months to a year from now, how are people going to want to subscribe? Luckily, when Lisa had a couple viral videos, she did have that catalog of evergreen content that people discovered. She had videos that were 6 months old get an influx of views based on a different video that had gone viral.
Final Thoughts
Joining the Zero to Influence Bootcamp isn’t going to guarantee a viral video, but what it does do is teach you how to put in the work to create a channel that is ready for a viral video. My goal for all my students is that, by the end of the their time working with with me, they know more about YouTube than 99% of the population. My goal is to provide my students with the tools they need to reach their YouTube goals.

MY FAVORITE BUSINESS TOOLS
Course Creation: Looking to create a course? Kajabi is the BEST platform hands down. I use this for my course after extensive research on all the other platforms.
Live Calls and Interviews: I use Ecamm for my podcast interviews, both audio and for YouTube that you see here on YouTube. It makes it super easy to share my screen and create the split-screen with my guest. I’m not super techie and this software is really easy to use!
Webinars and Live calls: I use Zoom.us for my group coaching calls in my private membership group for female YouTube creators. It’s also the software I use to record my Road to 100k YouTube Subscribers Masterclass!
THE BEST YOUTUBE/PODCASTING EQUIPMENT
After interviewing HUNDREDS of successful YouTube creators, these are the pieces of equipment that hands down get mentioned time and time again. You can’t go wrong with anything on this list!
- 4k Camera: Great for starting out and vlogging
- Lens: This lens is recommended highly by many of my podcast guests, it gives the blurry “YouTuber” background look.
- Audio: If you want to upgrade your set-up, audio should be one of the first investments (after a good camera). This microphone is unanimously the favorite amongst my podcast guests.
- Podcast/Voiceover Microphone: If you are looking for a great microphone for a podcast or video voiceover, this is it! This is the one that you see in all of my videos and the one I’ve recorded my podcast on for years.
- Webcam: For my interviews, that you see in my videos, this is the webcam that I use. Super inexpensive and easy to set up!
- Inexpensive Lighting Kit: Need to pick up some lights but don’t want to spend a ton? This is a great set that will get you started and help improve the look of your videos.
- Ring light: Looking for that beauty look? Invest in a ring light! This is an inexpensive light that does that trick!
