After working with and interviewing over 1,000 YouTube creators, I have found that there are three money mistakes that a lot of YouTube creators are making… and it’s holding them back from maximizing their income!
This might sound controversial, but I love talking about money. I love making money (who doesn’t!?), but I also love teaching people how to make money, and I love YouTube because it’s an amazing platform that you can make a lot of money from!
Here are the top 3 mistakes YouTube creators are making when it comes to money:
- Not thinking about YouTube as a way to make money: so many creators get on YouTube as a hobby and not to make money, and that may have been the case 7 or 8 years ago, but a lot has changed since then! There’s nothing wrong with declaring that you want to get on YouTube to make money. You want to make an impact, but you can make an even bigger impact when you’re making money. YouTube is a huge time commitment and it isn’t always sustainable if you’re not deriving an income from it.
- Not optimizing your video for AdSense: you can make a decent amount of money from AdSense without having millions of subscribers or views. You’re leaving money on the table by not putting your midroll ads in your videos! Don’t dismiss AdSense!
- You don’t have to have a huge audience to make money: Most people think you have to have tens of thousands of subscribers to generate money off YouTube, but that is simply not true! The more niche your audience and topic is, the better, but also, the ability for your channel to have affiliate income or brand deals play a huge role. I have 10k subscribers on YouTube, and I’m making multiple 6 figures a year through selling my online courses. There are so many different ways to monetize your channel that you can do completely online! From digital products to courses to coaching, the possibilities are endless!
If you’re putting time and effort into your content, you want to start thinking about how you can monetize your audience. What is your audience telling you they love about you and what they need from you?
