Kassandra Reinhardt is a yoga teacher and author based in Ottawa, Canada. Her YouTube channel, “Yoga With Kassandra” has served as the introduction and the motivation for hundreds of thousands of people around the world to experience the benefits of a daily yoga practice. Her book “Yin Yoga: Stretch the Mindful Way” was recently published by DK Books and she offers in-person and online certifications in this style. She is on a mission to make yoga fun and accessible for everyone
Kassandra started her YouTube channel in 2014 with no real dreams or goals. YouTube for her was a way for her to share her passion, to teach, and to help her get studio jobs. She didn’t realize that online work was a legitimate “thing.” Her channel had very humble beginnings: she knew nothing about filming, editing, or marketing, she didn’t have any equipment, and she recorded by taping her cell phone against the wall so it would stay in place. She treated her videos like her own personal practice. Her growth was a slow and steady process where every month was better than the previous month. There was no real dramatic increase or viral hit that catapulted her channel to success. Despite this, she still made a decent income even when she didn’t have a high subscriber count, because right away she quickly learned how to monetize even her small audience through paid programs, courses, and custom videos. She used YouTube to leverage better training and teaching opportunities.
“At first, I really didn’t care too about the numbers because I just genuinely love making YouTube videos. I love being in front of the camera and I love connecting with people from all over the world.”
By looking at what people were doing in her industry, specifically the top yoga teachers with online presence, not necessarily the top YouTubers, Kassandra realized they had a ton of revenue streams and set out to replicate that. She never wanted to be totally reliant on YouTube, but rather, to use it as a funnel to other socials, mailing list, and premium programs. That’s where she could truly build connections on her own without relying on apps she had basically no control over. From the beginning, Kassandra has been passionate about her YouTube channel, and even if a day came where she couldn’t make money off YouTube, she would still do it because she is so passionate about it. This passion is key to YouTube success.
“Leverage what you already have that is free and accessible, and then package it up into a really wonderful, free offer that allows the audience to get to know you, and also allows you to leverage your premium products and services.”
3 Key Interview Takeaways
- Do not rely on YouTube. Do not rely on YouTube. Diversify your income as quickly as possible and build connections on your own. Be self-reliant. You have no control over YouTube or its ever-changing algorithm. What if YouTube demonetizes your channel? What if YouTube shuts down your channel? Create multiple streams of revenue like courses and premium products that you have control over.
- Do what works for you. Don’t just do what everyone else is doing. Just because it works for someone else doesn’t mean it will work for you. Figure out what DOES work for you, and keep doing it.
- Find what your audience likes and accommodate it. Kassandra realized that her audience was split into two camps: those who liked shorter videos and those who preferred longer ones, so she changed her upload schedule to best accommodate all of her subscribers. She now uploads twice a week and diversifies her content to keep everyone happy.

MY FAVORITE BUSINESS TOOLS
Course Creation: Looking to create a course? Kajabi is the BEST platform hands down. I use this for my course after extensive research on all the other platforms.
Live Calls and Interviews: I use Ecamm for my podcast interviews, both audio and for YouTube that you see here on YouTube. It makes it super easy to share my screen and create the split-screen with my guest. I’m not super techie and this software is really easy to use!
Webinars and Live calls: I use Zoom.us for my group coaching calls in my private membership group for female YouTube creators. It’s also the software I use to record my Road to 100k YouTube Subscribers Masterclass!
THE BEST YOUTUBE/PODCASTING EQUIPMENT
After interviewing HUNDREDS of successful YouTube creators, these are the pieces of equipment that hands down get mentioned time and time again. You can’t go wrong with anything on this list!
- 4k Camera: Great for starting out and vlogging
- Lens: This lens is recommended highly by many of my podcast guests, it gives the blurry “YouTuber” background look.
- Audio: If you want to upgrade your set-up, audio should be one of the first investments (after a good camera). This microphone is unanimously the favorite amongst my podcast guests.
- Podcast/Voiceover Microphone: If you are looking for a great microphone for a podcast or video voiceover, this is it! This is the one that you see in all of my videos and the one I’ve recorded my podcast on for years.
- Webcam: For my interviews, that you see in my videos, this is the webcam that I use. Super inexpensive and easy to set up!
- Inexpensive Lighting Kit: Need to pick up some lights but don’t want to spend a ton? This is a great set that will get you started and help improve the look of your videos.
- Ring light: Looking for that beauty look? Invest in a ring light! This is an inexpensive light that does that trick!
