Scared to start a YouTube channel? Stop doing this! With Fitness Influencer Action Jacquelyn: The YouTube Power Hour Podcast 329

“If you keep going, you will succeed.”

Be sure to check out my Free 2022 YouTube Goals Workbook! Inside you’ll find you’ll find an exercise that I do with my clients and in my Bootcamp that will help you stick with and achieve your goals on YouTube. The journaling and reflection exercises in the workbook have three different components that we’re going to focus on: money, lifestyle, and mindset, and will help align your life goals with your YouTube goals to help create the 2022 that YOU want.

Jacquelyn Umof is an international Barre expert and celebrity fitness trainer, educator, speaker, and founder of her two online training programs – StretchyFitApp.com, the #1 Barre & Pilates Fitness membership and community for women, and healmygut.com, a 6-week weight loss and de-bloating coaching program. She’s a former professional ballerina, NBA Laker Girl, and latin ballroom dancer. Jacquelyn has a social media audience reaching over 1M women daily across various platforms, and has been featured as a top creator on Pinterest, and seen on Fox News, Shape Magazine, BuzzFeed, Pop Sugar, and more. And on top of all that, she’s my little sister!

Jacquelyn got started on YouTube after years of being a full-time influencer on instagram, and she hesitated for so long to start her channel because YouTube felt so overwhelming and scary to her. There’s so much more that goes into a YouTube channel than instagram. After a lot of nudging from her big sister (me!), she finally decided to take the plunge. She joined the very first Zero to Influence Bootcamp as one of my OG bootcampers.

Jacquelyn’s Bootcamp Breakthroughs

In the bootcamp, Jacquelyn was given the tools and the support she needed to grow her channel. The bootcamp was like having a shortcut; saving her time and money to get the answers to the questions she had quickly without having to take the time to figure it out on her own. She loved being able to learn from other bootcampers and she felt motivated by their successes. It’s also comforting and reassuring to know that you are not alone in your struggles and that there is a community of women going through the journey beside you.

Jacquelyn’s biggest breakthrough was realizing that setbacks are normal. Often, we misinterpret a setback as evidence that we’re not good enough or that we are a failure, but it’s important to know that it’s part of the process and that it’s completely normal. Just like working out, the more you work out, the easier it gets, and the same goes for YouTube! Youtube is a learning curve, but you get better and better with each video.Once Jacquelyn realized that YouTube is a free marketing tool that not only allows you to get your message out there, but also hone your craft along the way, she started to feel more confident and less defeated. Even though Jacquelyn is my sister, she took full advantage of the coaching calls. These calls kept her accountable to show up professionally and get her questions answered, rather than trying to text her big sister.

“At the end of the day, it’s a free marketing tool, no matter what. Whether it’s 100 people or 100,000 people, it’s a free marketing tool that you can get your message out there and also hone your craft.”

The Evergreen Value of Coaching Calls

Through the coaching calls, Jacquelyn was able to dial in on her channel brand and identity. I would say my YouTube super power is helping my bootcampers and 1:1 clients hone in on what makes them unique. There are a lot of barre instructors on YouTube, but what makes Jacquelyn special is her 15+ years of ballet training. By dialing in on that and using her dance experience, Jacquelyn was able to launch the Ballet Body Challenge. The feedback from the coaching calls helped her choose that name specifically, and this challenge is what blew up her channel. Jacquelyn was getting 1,000 subscribers a day. The Zero to Influence program is not just someone telling you about SEO and what tags to use… it’s almost like having a talent manager who can help you highlight your unique talent and go all in. Once Jacquelyn had that foundation, we were able to collaborate on dozens of video ideas.

I encouraged Jacquelyn to start uploading two videos a week, which seemed daunting at first. But she realized that by working backwards and scheduling out her filming days in advance, it saved her a ton of time and money, and even cut down on the video editing. It seems so simple, but are you actually doing it? Often the answer is no. Jacquelyn also realized she could save money by filming at the beach vs. renting out a studio, having her own equipment, and hiring college students to man the camera. Her beach videos are now part of her brand, especially now that people are watching YouTube (particularly, exercise videos) on their TVs.

Final Thoughts

When Jacquelyn thinks about what her dream career would be, this is it. There’s nothing else she would want to do. YouTube gives her the ability to do what she loves and to teach and reach people all over the world. Instead of teaching at a boutique studio to 12 people at a time, Jacquelyn can teach millions.

Her advice to new or aspiring YouTube creators? Don’t let mistakes stop you or get too hung up on your competition or what you see other creators doing. Remember, they are not you! What works for them may not work for you and what works for you will not work for them. Find what makes you unique and special. Even when things feels hard, just keep going. Never do anything halfway. Go all in, and invest in a program like the Zero to Influence Bootcamp to keep you accountable. You’ll make back your investment in no time, and you’ll save time and money in the long run!

“The bootcamp is a shortcut. You’re gonna have support for when you run into issues. If you’re serious about YouTube, and you don’t want to get derailed, then join the bootcamp. You’re gonna make the money back.”

MY FAVORITE BUSINESS TOOLS

Course Creation: Looking to create a course? Kajabi is the BEST platform hands down. I use this for my course after extensive research on all the other platforms.

Live Calls and Interviews: I use Ecamm for my podcast interviews, both audio and for YouTube that you see here on YouTube. It makes it super easy to share my screen and create the split-screen with my guest. I’m not super techie and this software is really easy to use!

Webinars and Live calls: I use Zoom.us for my group coaching calls in my private membership group for female YouTube creators. It’s also the software I use to record my Road to 100k YouTube Subscribers Masterclass!

THE BEST YOUTUBE/PODCASTING EQUIPMENT

After interviewing HUNDREDS of successful YouTube creators, these are the pieces of equipment that hands down get mentioned time and time again. You can’t go wrong with anything on this list!

  • 4k Camera: Great for starting out and vlogging
  • Lens: This lens is recommended highly by many of my podcast guests, it gives the blurry “YouTuber” background look.
  • Audio: If you want to upgrade your set-up, audio should be one of the first investments (after a good camera). This microphone is unanimously the favorite amongst my podcast guests.
  • Podcast/Voiceover Microphone: If you are looking for a great microphone for a podcast or video voiceover, this is it! This is the one that you see in all of my videos and the one I’ve recorded my podcast on for years.
  • Webcam: For my interviews, that you see in my videos, this is the webcam that I use. Super inexpensive and easy to set up!
  • Inexpensive Lighting Kit: Need to pick up some lights but don’t want to spend a ton? This is a great set that will get you started and help improve the look of your videos.
  • Ring light: Looking for that beauty look? Invest in a ring light! This is an inexpensive light that does that trick!
