How Beauty YouTuber Lisa J. Tripled Her Adsense Revenue While Going from 3 Videos a Week to 2!: The YouTube Power Hour Podcast 343
“I’m doing less videos and making more money.”
Be sure to check out my Free 2022 YouTube Goals Workbook! Inside you’ll find you’ll find an exercise that I do with my clients and in my Bootcamp that will help you stick with and achieve your goals on YouTube. The journaling and reflection exercises in the workbook have three different components that we’re going to focus on: money, lifestyle, and mindset, and will help align your life goals with your YouTube goals to help create the 2022 that YOU want.
Lisa Jauregui started her YouTube Channel as an outlet for her to teach women makeup techniques in a simple, and attainable way. A former makeup artist, she always had a passion for teaching women the basics of makeup theory, rather than creating complicated looks that were hard to follow. Through her channel, she cultivated a community of women that inspired her to launch BK Beauty, a company committed to celebrating inner beauty, and giving back to organizations like The Kindness Campaign who are committed to teaching kids how to be kinder to themselves and each other. With every sale a donation is made to TKC. BK Beauty launched in 2019 with a collection of Vegan Makeup Brushes. In addition to running her YouTube Channel and Social platforms, she operates BK Beauty with her husband Paul, and a small team in Austin, Texas.
I had Lisa on the show a few years ago, and I’m so excited to welcome her back to the podcast… this time as one of my 1:1 coaching clients! I love bringing on the creators I work with, showing them off on the podcast, and seeing what happens when someone truly uplevels their content.
Lisa and I started working together in October of 2021. She was about 7 years into her channel, hovering around 200k subscribers, but she was in a bit of a lull. Anyone who has been on YouTube for awhile knows that peaks and valleys are normal, but she really felt stuck. She was finding it hard to create content she was excited about, her views were on a slow and steady decline. It started to become a vicious cycle. The more her views declined, the less motivated and inspired she felt to create content. She needed a reboot, she needed to feel accountable, and she needed to feel challenged. She never wanted to be one of those creators who launched a brand and then disappeared from social media… she was able to launch her brand because of her YouTube channel and she really wanted to continue to keep that first passion alive.
“The truth is that I didn’t know it all… I needed someone to hold me accountable.”
Enrolling in 1:1 YouTube Coaching
Once you start treating something like a business and less of a hobby, you tend to respond more to how the videos perform. Lisa wasn’t sure if she wanted to create content based solely on what performed well, or based on what she was really passionate about, and I think that’s something just about all YouTube creators can relate to. She wanted to figure out a way to merge the two and get the best of both worlds.
When she enrolled in coaching with me, she felt like even though she’d been on YouTube for 7 years, whatever she was doing wasn’t working, and even when you’ve been doing something for a long time, there’s always something to learn! She wanted help and direction in understanding her analytics, creating her titles and thumbnails, and really to help keep her accountable. Lisa used to just find a couple hours in a day to record and basically came up with an idea right there, but with the help of coaching, she learned how to actually plan your content and be intentional and strategic with what you create and when.
Lisa’s Breakthroughs
By working with me 1:1, Lisa was able to truly uplevel her content and make it more visually appealing by adding b-roll, and fixing her background and lighting, and she was also able to take that upleveled content and make it more profitable. In all her time on YouTube, Lisa didn’t do anything with her ads other than check the monetize box (much to my horror!), so she was able to learn how to add more ads in her videos. By doing that, she has tripled her average monthly AdSense revenue, from around $2000 a month before coaching to $6000 a month after coaching!
And the best part? She is doing less videos a week. Lisa was putting out three videos a week, but now she is only doing two, and yet, her AdSense revenue has tripled, she’s getting MORE views on her videos, and she’s having fun and feeling proud of the quality of the content she is putting out there. She’s now working smarter, not harder, and earning more by doing less.
As she started upleveling her content, her confidence and pride started to really shine through, and this had a ripple effect throughout her channel, even in her sponsored content! Sponsored content is an important part of a well-rounded full-time YouTube business. Lisa has been working with brands for awhile, but because she had spread herself so thin and didn’t plan her content correctly, she wasn’t putting enough thought into her sponsored content. It wasn’t good, and that was reflected in the views, and even though working with brands is exciting, she was starting to resent it in a way. But after working with me 1:1, she was able to come up with creative video ideas with better concepts, titles, and thumbnails. The content is overall more engaging and it’s now getting more views. She’s even had a couple of sponsored videos that she’s submitted for review get so much praise for how incredible the quality is, that the brands have asked and paid extra to us it in their own ads, and this is something that never happened to her before working with me 1:1!
“You can still create really great, quality content for your viewers that is sponsored.”
Being Coachable
So what’s it like being coached on something you’ve been doing yourself for years? It’s definitely an adjustment, but Lisa knew that by investing both time and money into this program, she had to be open to receiving feedback. She needed to allow herself to be open-minded and trying something new, because what she was doing was not working. Sometimes, we have to check our egos at the door!
What she really loved was that despite her incredibly busy schedule, she was able to set aside the time that was needed to really implement the coaching and allow me to hold her accountable. The feedback I give to my clients is completely personalized and tailored to their individual needs. There is no cookie-cutter advice that I give to them because every creator is different. I take the time to really understand my students and who they are. It’s almost like a puzzle for me, and I’m such a geek for putting all the pieces together to figure out that magic formula!
Final Thoughts
YouTube is constantly changing, and creating content is a lot of work. A lot of people don’t really have the time to sit there and study the best practices or study their analytics because they’re so busy working on the next video, or working with sponsors. It’s easy to get stuck in the constant grind of content creation. Don’t be scared of slowing down, because you have to slow down to speed up. For YouTubers who are established with a large following and who have been on the platform for awhile, it’s easy to get comfortable, complacent, and lazy. Take the time and resources to invest in a course or a coach to help you!
“I feel like I’m working smarter, I’m not working harder, and I’m having more fun doing it because I’m proud of what I’m putting out.”

MY FAVORITE BUSINESS TOOLS
Course Creation: Looking to create a course? Kajabi is the BEST platform hands down. I use this for my course after extensive research on all the other platforms.
Live Calls and Interviews: I use Ecamm for my podcast interviews, both audio and for YouTube that you see here on YouTube. It makes it super easy to share my screen and create the split-screen with my guest. I’m not super techie and this software is really easy to use!
Webinars and Live calls: I use Zoom.us for my group coaching calls in my private membership group for female YouTube creators. It’s also the software I use to record my Road to 100k YouTube Subscribers Masterclass!
THE BEST YOUTUBE/PODCASTING EQUIPMENT
After interviewing HUNDREDS of successful YouTube creators, these are the pieces of equipment that hands down get mentioned time and time again. You can’t go wrong with anything on this list!
- 4k Camera: Great for starting out and vlogging
- Lens: This lens is recommended highly by many of my podcast guests, it gives the blurry “YouTuber” background look.
- Audio: If you want to upgrade your set-up, audio should be one of the first investments (after a good camera). This microphone is unanimously the favorite amongst my podcast guests.
- Podcast/Voiceover Microphone: If you are looking for a great microphone for a podcast or video voiceover, this is it! This is the one that you see in all of my videos and the one I’ve recorded my podcast on for years.
- Webcam: For my interviews, that you see in my videos, this is the webcam that I use. Super inexpensive and easy to set up!
- Inexpensive Lighting Kit: Need to pick up some lights but don’t want to spend a ton? This is a great set that will get you started and help improve the look of your videos.
- Ring light: Looking for that beauty look? Invest in a ring light! This is an inexpensive light that does that trick!
