Nicole Lela Green is a social media content creator who primarily works through YouTube and Instagram. Her typical viewer is a woman much like herself: a wife and mother with similar values who is motivated to learn and grow daily. Nicole desires to share her everyday life in an authentic way while focusing on faith, family, and lifestyle, and she prides herself in sharing the beautiful, challenging, fun, and mundane parts of life. Her genuineness has led to an authentic and trustworthy relationship with her audience.
Nicole’s channel did really well in 2019 when she had a viral video and her channel exploded, but by 2020, her channel had stagnated. Nicole was wondering how to keep her views up and how to keep her subscribers engaged. At 180k subscribers, she would check her stats every day, but nothing was changing. She was kind of stuck in terms of what kind of videos she was doing, and after a channel rebrand, she was exhausted from all the work she was doing without seeing any changes. I first met Nicole when I had her on the podcast last year, and after the interview, we got to talking, and she enrolled in my bootcamp and my private coaching. The rest is history! I’m so proud and excited for the direction her channel is going in now.
With a viral video that came on so fast, it carried her channel and it became a game of catch up. She rode the wave and things were easy. She looked at what other channels in her niche were doing and just kind of did what they were doing, but she didn’t take into account that those channels had already amassed a loyal following while she was still trying to figure out her true fan. Merely mimicking what others were doing because she thought that was what you were “supposed to do” to be successful wasn’t working out for her, and it was causing her frustration.
“I realized that my technique, my strategy wasn’t really aligning, and I was trying to do what these channels were doing that were just not at a place that I was at yet, so I couldn’t do that.”
The bootcamp helped her revisit the foundation of her channel and reset and restart from the beginning to really hone down her why, and to figure out her true fan. She studied other channels and she really started to pay attention to her analytics. The bootcamp helped her get down to her WHY, which is the core of any channel. Once she found her why, she focused on finding her true fan. Who was she making videos for? What does that person want? Nicole realized that as a lifestyle channel you have to figure out not only who your audience is, but what they want to see from you. After building that foundation from the ground up with the lessons in the bootcamp, Nicole moved on to 1:1 coaching with me to help further give her clarity on her channel. In our sessions together, there was a lot of note taking back and forth, video ideas and brainstorming, thumbnail tweaks and corrections, and we really came up with a plan for what her viewers wanted to see. She started transitioning to informative videos rather than vlogs because that was what was tending to do better on her channel. By being more disciplined in her content plan, she started seeing a lot more success.
Nicole had about 182k subscribers when we started working together, and as our work together continued, she started seeing more and more stats on the back end in the green. Her Adsense revenue more than quadrupled, and because of that, she now doesn’t have to do as many sponsored videos, because at the end of the day, you want to be in control of whether or not you take a deal. You don’t want to feel like you have to take a deal because you have to pay your bills that month and Adsense just isn’t going to cut it. The bootcamp and the 1:1 coaching truly changed Nicole’s life. It’s helped her understand that SHE CAN do this, and it has helped equip her with strategies, formulas, skills, and tools to push forward through the next inevitable plateau.
“It does take more time, but once you start to see the numbers changing in the backend, it’s all paying off and it’s all making a difference.”
3 Key Interview Takeaways
- Don’t just do what other channels are doing. Nicole used to look at other channels in her niche and tried to mimic what they were doing, because if it worked for them, it works for her, right? WRONG. Nicole hadn’t figured out her why, nor had she figured out who her true fan was, and she was trying to do the same thing as channels that had already amassed the large and loyal following that Nicole was lacking, and that’s why it wasn’t working for her.
- Do the work. Youtube is not as simple as uploading a video and waiting for people to watch it and subscribe. When Nicole first started her channel, there were a lot of things she wasn’t doing beforehand. By digging deep into the WHY and the WHO of your channel, paying attention to what your analytics are telling you, and being intentional and disciplined in your content plan, you will see more success.
- Be in control of your brand deals. It’s not beneficial to you, your viewers, or the brand if you’re doing deals out of necessity. You should always want to be in control of when you take a deal, and never put yourself in a position where you feel like you have to take a lot of deals just to pay the bills.

MY FAVORITE BUSINESS TOOLS
Course Creation: Looking to create a course? Kajabi is the BEST platform hands down. I use this for my course after extensive research on all the other platforms.
Live Calls and Interviews: I use Ecamm for my podcast interviews, both audio and for YouTube that you see here on YouTube. It makes it super easy to share my screen and create the split-screen with my guest. I’m not super techie and this software is really easy to use!

THE BEST YOUTUBE/PODCASTING EQUIPMENT
After interviewing HUNDREDS of successful YouTube creators, these are the pieces of equipment that hands down get mentioned time and time again. You can’t go wrong with anything on this list!
- 4k Camera: Great for starting out and vlogging
- Lens: This lens is recommended highly by many of my podcast guests, it gives the blurry “YouTuber” background look.
- Audio: If you want to upgrade your set-up, audio should be one of the first investments (after a good camera). This microphone is unanimously the favorite amongst my podcast guests.
- Podcast/Voiceover Microphone: If you are looking for a great microphone for a podcast or video voiceover, this is it! This is the one that you see in all of my videos and the one I’ve recorded my podcast on for years.
- Webcam: For my interviews, that you see in my videos, this is the webcam that I use. Super inexpensive and easy to set up!
- Inexpensive Lighting Kit: Need to pick up some lights but don’t want to spend a ton? This is a great set that will get you started and help improve the look of your videos.
- Ring light: Looking for that beauty look? Invest in a ring light! This is an inexpensive light that does that trick!
