Trina Albus is the founder of MAGENTA AGENCY, the social/influencer marketing agency for beauty brands. Trina has 25 years of experience in digital and has been acknowledged by the industry since 2009 as a thought leader in social media marketing. Before founding MAGENTA, for 15 years she put her expertise in economics, math, and statistics to work for the technology and marketing groups at Price Waterhouse, Discovery Channel, and Time Inc. In 2015, Trina launched her YouTube channel called Beauty Beyond 40 to showcase anti aging skincare and beauty devices like microcurrent, radio frequency, and LED light therapy, and never injectables like Botox and fillers.
Trina started her channel 5 years ago at the age of 40 because she wanted to have a unique voice, and learn more about what it takes to create content. What initially began as a journey to understand the world of influencers and influencer marketing to improve her agency, Trina actually discovered that she LOVED creating content, but she was feeling lost, unfocused, and uninspired, so she joined my bootcamp and found the roadmap and structure she needed to hone in on her niche and truly find her voice and WHO she was talking to. Trina has built a facebook community of over 3,000 members, where she really connects with her viewers and even knows some by name. Her community is a safe space in what can often be a cruel internet world, and it helps her plan her content and build relationships with her audience
“You kind of have to go the way the data is taking you.”
When Trina signed up for my bootcamp, she was given the structure, the guidance, and the accountability she needed to equip herself with the tools of success, but the first thing that really helped her was figuring out her niche and discovering her voice. The journey to self-discovery is important to having your vision and channel blossom.
She really wanted to do over-40 skincare, but she found that when she did device review videos, they totally took off. Her skincare videos don’t perform as well, and the “aha moment” was that she was going to be “the device channel”. There was a need within the skincare community for someone to make videos about devices who weren’t estheticians or dermatologists. There was nobody to make videos as a consumer for consumers, and even though that wasn’t the direction she wanted to go in, that’s the specific niche she fell into because that was where the data pushed her. In addition to honing in on her niche, the structure of the bootcamp helped set her up to commit to consistency on her channel, and helped her understand the YouTube algorithm to frame out her content.
“By doing the bootcamp, it gives you the structure, it gives you the community, it gives you the motivation, and it forced me to do it.”
3 Key Interview Takeaways
Three Key Takeaways:
- Just because you’re smart doesn’t mean you shouldn’t invest in yourself. Trina is proof that even as an owner of a digital marketing agency, she still had a lot to learn about YouTube. By investing in yourself and knowing you can always learn more, you will blossom.
- Have a media kit on hand to send to brands. Your media kit should include your minimum rates. This will help weed out the brands that may not be the right fit for you. At the end of the day, this is your job, and sometimes brands are only willing to give free products instead of pay you.
- Build a facebook community. Want a different way to reach your audience? Facebook groups are where it’s at. Trina uses hers to give out promo codes to help save her audience money on products, to post polls, glean content ideas, and engage with her community. By starting her facebook group, she now has a vision for WHO she is talking to.

MY FAVORITE BUSINESS TOOLS
Course Creation: Looking to create a course? Kajabi is the BEST platform hands down. I use this for my course after extensive research on all the other platforms.
Live Calls and Interviews: I use Ecamm for my podcast interviews, both audio and for YouTube that you see here on YouTube. It makes it super easy to share my screen and create the split-screen with my guest. I’m not super techie and this software is really easy to use!
Webinars and Live calls: I use Zoom.us for my group coaching calls in my private membership group for female YouTube creators. It’s also the software I use to record my Road to 100k YouTube Subscribers Masterclass!
THE BEST YOUTUBE/PODCASTING EQUIPMENT
After interviewing HUNDREDS of successful YouTube creators, these are the pieces of equipment that hands down get mentioned time and time again. You can’t go wrong with anything on this list!
- 4k Camera: Great for starting out and vlogging
- Lens: This lens is recommended highly by many of my podcast guests, it gives the blurry “YouTuber” background look.
- Audio: If you want to upgrade your set-up, audio should be one of the first investments (after a good camera). This microphone is unanimously the favorite amongst my podcast guests.
- Podcast/Voiceover Microphone: If you are looking for a great microphone for a podcast or video voiceover, this is it! This is the one that you see in all of my videos and the one I’ve recorded my podcast on for years.
- Webcam: For my interviews, that you see in my videos, this is the webcam that I use. Super inexpensive and easy to set up!
- Inexpensive Lighting Kit: Need to pick up some lights but don’t want to spend a ton? This is a great set that will get you started and help improve the look of your videos.
- Ring light: Looking for that beauty look? Invest in a ring light! This is an inexpensive light that does that trick!
