Wedding planner turned vlogger, Jamie Wolfer, has built a business around celebrating one of the most joyous days in people’s lives. With a heart for budget-minded couples, she brings weekly wedding tips and tricks to her viewers in an effort to ease stress, save money, and maintain sanity. In her business, JW Coordination, she serves the Southern California area and beyond with her wedding planner magic, and loves working one on one with treasured clients.

Jamie wanted to start a YouTube channel for a long time. With a deep desire to create, she realized that nobody was really making wedding planning-related videos on YouTube, so she decided to give it a try. From the beginning, she uploaded once a week, every Tuesday. She maintains this schedule to this day, and in over 2 years, has only missed 2 uploads! In her first few videos, she wanted to give valuable information about the things people didn’t actually have to worry about when planning their weddings. At first, Jamie put immense pressure on herself to create perfection in every video, but now, she considers a video’s ability to reach even a small subset of her audience as a success. With practice and consistency, her production value has increased as she has made great strides in editing, video, and sound quality, but she has been able to take the pressure off herself not to create a *perfect* video every time.

“I used to put an immense amount of pressure on myself to always have grand slams, to always have epic videos each and every week, until I reached a point where I realized that it’s not a possibility, and it’s important that I just keep creating and just keep helping people out.”

What Jamie found in creating her YouTube channel was that people wanted to hire her to help plan their wedding. In fact, the majority of Jamie’s clients have found her based on her YouTube channel, and her viewers stick around watching her channel long after their big day. But where Jamie’s heart truly lies is with the budget-conscious bride; those that are working with minimal budget and can’t afford a wedding planner, much less Jamie herself. Recognizing the need for wedding planning resources, That’s when Jamie created her course: the Masterplan. Created for anyone planning a wedding on their own and for budgets of all sizes, Jamie’s affordable course was a way that she could reach her audience, hold their hand throughout the process, and give her value and knowledge at a budget-friendly price point.

“Just start. Because you can always get better, but you can’t get back the time that you didn’t create content.”

3 Key Interview Takeaways

  1. Consistency. Jamie has been able to maintain the exact same upload schedule since the very beginning. When your audience comes to expect you to show up for them, they will consistently show up for you.
  2. Be entertaining.  Vocal inflection and hand gestures are so important, especially when there’s nothing else going on in the video. You have to be fun to watch and fun to listen to. You have to be able to entertain and engage people.
  3. Planning is important. Jamie talks a lot in this episode about her video process, and she spends A LOT of time planning and researching. Developing the actual concept of the video is what she spends the most time on. Her brainstorming and research methods have helped her discover the needs in the industry and what people are truly looking for.

MY FAVORITE BUSINESS TOOLS

Course Creation: Looking to create a course? Kajabi is the BEST platform hands down. I use this for my course after extensive research on all the other platforms.

Live Calls and Interviews: I use Ecamm for my podcast interviews, both audio and for YouTube that you see here on YouTube. It makes it super easy to share my screen and create the split-screen with my guest. I’m not super techie and this software is really easy to use!

Webinars and Live calls: I use Zoom.us for my group coaching calls in my private membership group for female YouTube creators. It’s also the software I use to record my Road to 100k YouTube Subscribers Masterclass!

THE BEST YOUTUBE/PODCASTING EQUIPMENT

After interviewing HUNDREDS of successful YouTube creators, these are the pieces of equipment that hands down get mentioned time and time again. You can’t go wrong with anything on this list!

  • 4k Camera: Great for starting out and vlogging
  • Lens: This lens is recommended highly by many of my podcast guests, it gives the blurry “YouTuber” background look.
  • Audio: If you want to upgrade your set-up, audio should be one of the first investments (after a good camera). This microphone is unanimously the favorite amongst my podcast guests.
  • Podcast/Voiceover Microphone: If you are looking for a great microphone for a podcast or video voiceover, this is it! This is the one that you see in all of my videos and the one I’ve recorded my podcast on for years.
  • Webcam: For my interviews, that you see in my videos, this is the webcam that I use. Super inexpensive and easy to set up!
  • Inexpensive Lighting Kit: Need to pick up some lights but don’t want to spend a ton? This is a great set that will get you started and help improve the look of your videos.
  • Ring light: Looking for that beauty look? Invest in a ring light! This is an inexpensive light that does that trick!
