3 Ways to Boost Your Youtube Camera Confidence: The YouTube Power Hour Podcast 384
Power up your mind, create from confidence, and dazzle on camera with my ALL NEW Capture Your Confidence course! Capture Your Confidence is the complete step-by-step system that will help you bulletproof your mind against the negativity, and unleash your inner it-factor so you can confidently uplevel the way you look and feel on camera.
Over the years, I’ve worked with over a thousand video creators, and what’s the one thing that comes up a lot? Confidence. Confidence is a HUGE indicator of whether or not someone will be successful as a video creator, but camera confidence is something a lot of creators struggle with. Maybe you have enough confidence and motivation to get started, but as soon as you hit record, you feel like you’re not your most confident self. Maybe you freeze. Maybe you watch it back and you realize that it isn’t really you.
How do you get more confidence? How do you showcase that personality and charisma that you see other creators having? Confidence has a snowball effect: the more confidence you have, the better you are in front of the camera you are, the more interesting, dynamic, magnetic and charismatic you are, and then more people want to watch you. The more people subscribe and watch your videos, the more subscribers you get, and so on and so forth.
So what’s the secret? How are successful content creators with hundreds of thousands–even millions–of subscribers achieving this level of success? I feel like it boils down to three things.
1. You Just Have to Do it
The more you do something; the more you practice something, the better you get at it and the more confident you are. That’s why athletes train! That’s why they are good at what they do! The more you do something and the more you practice something, the more confident you are in your abilities. Are you going to be the best and most confident version of yourself when you first started? Probably not, unless you had experience in front of the camera before starting. There’s no way you can expect to be super confident in something you’re just doing for the first time. This is why I talk about consistency a lot: consistency is just practice.
Every single time you film, you brainstorm an idea, you edit, you create a video, you get better, and the better you become, the more confidence you have. The more confident you are, the more successful you become, and then it loops over again, because the more success you see, the more confidence you get.
2. Having a resilient and strong mind
By not allowing the fears, insecurities, and negative self-talk get to you, you’re protecting yourself. If you allow these things to permeate, it’s very difficult to perform in front of a camera in a confident way. Sure, you can fake it until you make it, and sometimes that helps, but your mindset and your thought patterns have a HUGE impact on your overall confidence. Your internal dialogue needs to be positive in order for you to be your best version on camera: the version that people want to watch, that people are captivated by, that people want to be friends with, that people want to subscribe to. Having resilience and strength against both internal and external negativity is a HUGE factor in being successful on camera.
3. Having a strong mission…
…also known as your “why.” When you have a strong mission, it gives you something to focus on other than yourself. When you have something greater than yourself, and you have a desire to make an impact on the world and on a certain group of people you want to help, that mission becomes greater than your fears and insecurities. If you have a larger purpose, that can drive you, and help you to not focus as much as yourself. Don’t allow those fears to creep into your head, because if you do, you’re doing a disservice to the people you want to help by letting insecurity get in the way of your mission to help people.
