Why AI Is Giving YouTube Creators Over 40 a Major Advantage
I’ve spent nearly a decade helping women grow YouTube channels and turn their expertise into profitable businesses. And while I’m certainly not AI’s biggest fan, there’s something happening in the online business world right now that I think more women need to understand.
AI is changing what people are willing to pay for. Information that once required an expensive course or coaching program is now available in seconds through tools like ChatGPT. And as a result, the bar for selling online education, coaching, and premium services has gotten significantly higher.
But here’s what I find interesting: If you’re over 40 and have spent years building real expertise in your field, you may actually have an advantage in this new environment.
And YouTube is one of the best places to capitalize on it.
AI Is Changing the Value of Online Expertise
For years, there was a popular piece of advice in the online coaching industry: You only need to be a few steps ahead of your audience to teach them something.
That may have worked when access to information was more limited, but AI has changed the equation.
Today, someone can ask ChatGPT how to start a business, create a workout plan, develop a content strategy, or learn practically any new skill. Within seconds, they’ll have a reasonably useful answer.
So why would that person spend $2,000 or $5,000 on a coaching program that offers little more than the same generic information?
This is where I believe the online education industry is experiencing a major shift. Simply knowing something is no longer enough to justify premium pricing. You need to demonstrate that you have the experience, judgment, and proven ability to help someone achieve a result.
And that’s where things get interesting for experienced professionals.
We’re Experiencing a Trust Recession in Online Business
I’ve noticed that people are becoming much more discerning about who they trust online, particularly when they’re considering a significant financial investment.
A beautiful website, polished Instagram feed, or impressive sales page isn’t necessarily enough anymore. Buyers want to know whether the person behind the offer actually knows what they’re talking about.
Have they done the work? Have they helped real people? Can they show meaningful results? Do they have experience that goes beyond information anyone could find online?
I call this a trust recession.
When someone is considering investing thousands of dollars in a coaching program, consulting service, or online course, they’re often looking for more than information. They’re looking for someone who can apply that information to their specific situation, recognize problems they might overlook, and guide them toward a result.
And that’s precisely why I believe YouTube is becoming even more valuable for experienced business owners.
Why YouTube Is So Powerful for Selling High-Ticket Offers
One of the biggest advantages of YouTube is that it allows people to spend meaningful amounts of time with you before they ever consider buying something.
If someone discovers your channel and watches five, ten, or fifteen of your videos, they’re getting an opportunity to understand how you think, how you teach, and whether your approach resonates with them.
They’re hearing your opinions, seeing your expertise in action, and deciding whether you’re someone they trust.
By the time that person reaches out about working with you, they may already feel like they know you.
I’ve seen this happen repeatedly with the women I work with. Their YouTube channels become powerful sales tools because they’re doing the trust-building long before someone lands on a sales page or books a consultation.
This is particularly important for high-ticket offers, where someone may be investing several thousand dollars in a coaching program, consulting relationship, or specialized service.
The higher the investment, the more confidence people generally need before making a decision.
Why Creators Over 40 Have an Unfair Advantage
Here’s the part I really want women in their 40s, 50s, 60s, and beyond to understand.
You’re not starting from zero.
If you’ve spent 15 or 20 years working in your profession, you’ve already accumulated something incredibly valuable: experience.
Maybe you’re a doctor who has spent decades treating patients. Maybe you’re a financial advisor, attorney, physical therapist, business owner, or consultant. Maybe you’ve built a successful career solving a very specific problem for a very specific group of people.
You have stories, examples, insights, and firsthand knowledge that someone with a few months of experience simply doesn’t have.
And while AI can provide information about your field, it cannot replace the judgment you’ve developed through years of actually doing the work.
I’ve seen this advantage firsthand with clients like Dr. Amir Karam, a plastic surgeon who brings decades of surgical experience to his YouTube channel. His audience isn’t simply watching for general skincare or cosmetic surgery information. They’re getting insight from someone who has spent years working directly with patients and producing real results.
The same principle applies to Annette and Sarah from Thanks for Visiting, who teach short-term rental hosting based on years of actually operating properties. Their content is grounded in experience, not just theories about how Airbnb businesses should work.
These creators have something that makes their content difficult to replicate: a depth of knowledge that comes from real-world experience.
Your Experience Is What Makes Your YouTube Channel Valuable
One mistake I see women make is underestimating the value of what they already know.
They’re so accustomed to their own expertise that they assume everyone else knows the same things. They look at younger creators with beautiful branding, polished videos, and large followings and wonder whether they’ve missed their opportunity.
But the very experience they take for granted may be their biggest competitive advantage.
Think about how many problems you’ve solved throughout your career. How many clients, customers, or patients you’ve helped. How many mistakes you’ve learned from and how much perspective you’ve gained.
Those are the things that can make your YouTube content genuinely valuable.
You don’t need to compete with AI by producing more generic information. You need to bring the experience, perspective, and proof that make your advice different.
You Can’t Charge Premium Prices Without Building Proof
I also want to make something clear: having a YouTube channel doesn’t automatically mean you can start charging thousands of dollars for a program.
You need to earn that trust.
When I first launched my YouTube Bootcamp in 2018, I charged $300. I was still developing the program, learning from my students, and building a track record of results.
Over the years, I worked with thousands of women, improved the curriculum, collected testimonials, and developed a much deeper understanding of what actually helps women succeed on YouTube.
As that experience grew, so did the value of what I could offer.
Today, people aren’t simply paying for access to information about YouTube. They’re paying for the perspective I’ve developed through years of analyzing channels, working directly with creators, and helping women build successful businesses.
That’s an important distinction.
If you’re just starting out in your field, focus on getting experience and producing results before trying to command premium prices. But if you’ve already spent decades doing that work, recognize that you may have a much stronger foundation than you realize.
The Future of YouTube Belongs to Creators Who Can Demonstrate Real Value
I don’t believe AI means the end of online coaching, education, or expertise-based businesses. I think it’s forcing the industry to become more discerning about what actually deserves a premium price.
Generic information is easier to access than ever. Real experience, personalized guidance, and demonstrated results are much harder to replace.
And for women who have spent years building careers, businesses, and specialized knowledge, that’s an opportunity worth paying attention to.
YouTube gives you a platform to share that expertise, build trust with the right audience, and create a body of content that continues working for your business long after you publish it.
So if you’ve been putting off starting a YouTube channel because you think you’re too old, too late, or that the internet is already too crowded, I want you to reconsider.
Your years of experience aren’t something you need to overcome. They may be the very thing that makes your channel successful.
