The Rise of AI Slop on YouTube – Why Real Human Creators Still Matter
I’ve been in the YouTube game for nearly a decade, and I can confidently say: the platform is changing faster than ever before. If you’ve noticed more robotic-sounding videos, weirdly generic content, and a lot of faceless channels, you’re not imagining things. We are entering the era of what I call “AI slop.”
After watching a thought-provoking video by Kate Cassidy about the internet dying due to AI, I couldn’t stop thinking about what this means for YouTube — especially for creators who actually care about the content they’re putting out into the world.
AI-generated videos are everywhere now — and while some of them are clever, many are soulless. There’s no human voice, no lived experience, no real passion. And people can tell. A recent study even showed that over 50% of people can recognize AI-generated copy, and a similar percentage said they become less engaged when they realize something was created by AI.

So What’s Really Going On?
Let’s break it down:
- AI slop is flooding the platform
Videos made with AI scripts, AI voiceovers, AI thumbnails, and stock footage are being mass-produced. Some creators are treating YouTube like a passive income machine — and the content reflects that. - Faceless channels are booming
There are entire courses being sold on how to launch these channels quickly and cheaply. No camera. No personality. No connection. - But viewers can sense something’s missing
It’s that human spark — the voice, the quirks, the care. And that matters.
I’ve been interviewing creators lately who are doing the opposite of this trend. People like Toni Lipsey, a crochet YouTuber using her channel to preserve a dying art form. When I talk to creators like her, I’m reminded why I love this space so much. These aren’t just videos — they’re stories. They’re heart. They’re humanity.
Where Do We Go From Here?
Here’s what I truly believe:
As AI content becomes more common, human content becomes more valuable.
That means if you’re a creator, now is not the time to fade into the noise. Now is the time to lean in harder to what makes you unique.
Here are 3 things I recommend:
- Use AI as a tool, not a replacement.
Let it help you brainstorm or outline, but keep your voice front and center. - Show your face. Share your story.
If you’re building a brand or a business, people want to connect with the person behind it. - Include human moments.
Vlogs, lives, casual chats — they remind your audience that you’re real.
The good news? YouTube’s algorithm builds around what you watch. If you watch human-created content, you’ll get more of it. Viewers ultimately shape the platform — and many are already showing a preference for authenticity.
So yes, the future of YouTube may look unrecognizable 12 months from now. But here’s what won’t change:
- People will always crave connection.
- People will always value originality.
- And people will always be drawn to creators who make them feel somethin
That’s our superpower as humans. And no AI can replicate that.
Let’s not give up that ground. Let’s take it back.
