“What makes people really successful is the stuff that’s different.”

Don’t miss out on my last live bootcamp! Add your name to the waitlist for the upcoming YouTube Bootcamp now to ensure you grab your spot!

This episode is all about hyper-growth! We’re pulling back the curtain on how to grow from having no channel to 300,000 subscribers in 2 years! If you’re ready to learn how to simplify your workflow and get the nitty-gritty details on how she grew her channel, then Fashion Youtuber Naomi Boyer is here to deliver in today’s episode!

Naomi had always wanted to do something in fashion, but after leaving college she started working in pharmaceutical sales and she hated it. After some time in, she decided that she couldn’t stand it anymore and started researching becoming a full-time YouTuber. She looked up everything from growth strategies to what YouTubers were doing to monetize their channels. When she was ready, and with the support of her husband, she quit cold turkey and started her channel. A ton of consistency, listening to her audience and 2 years later, she broke 300k subscribers!

“The people that resonate with your opinion are going to stick with you, and those that don’t… that’s okay.”

Naomi and I spoke about the new atmosphere on YouTube and the challenges of sharing your opinion in a space where negativity and hate run rampant in the comment section. We also spoke about what videos were huge inflection points for her channel, and how she’s able to keep making content and selecting topics that people want to see.

“YouTube life can look glamorous, but just wanting to be in it is not enough to get successful.”

4 Key Interview Takeaways

  1. Go all in on growth. Naomi took an all-or-nothing approach when she launched her channel. She left her job cold turkey and was determined to make a full time living on YouTube, so all her actions were mapped to that. The research she did, how she spent most of her time and the videos she made were hyper-focused on her channels growth. Is it any wonder that she made that dream a reality in record time? You may not be thinking of cutting off your job right now,  instead opting for making YouTube your side gig, but how are you maximizing the little time you have? Can you get hyper-focused with that tight time and really give it your maximum effort?
  2. Do your research & emulate what’s working. If you plan to monetize your channel, do you know how you want to do it? Are you clear on what content you’ll be putting out consistently and what avenues you can use for growing your channel? Naomi had everything dialed in before she hit go. She looked at successful YouTubers and studied their approach, she found out who they went to for affiliate and brand deals and went to the same companies. Obviously, there are some things you won’t know without experience, but take a course, watch a ton of YouTube videos, and get your research in so very little is left to chance.
  3. Think like a viewer and make videos based on that. Your audience is the heart of your channel’s activity. If the audience doesn’t resonate with what you’re putting out, you have a dead piece of content. If they do, the algorithm likes your content and shows it to more people, and then you might get a viral hit. See? Nothing happens without the viewer, so ensure you’re listening to their feedback and watching their viewing trends on your videos. Then do more of what’s working. Like Naomi, even when you’re thinking about monetizing your brand and channel, focus on your audience first and the money will come.
  4. Only put out the content you’re excited about. Your energy and honesty get transferred from your videos to your viewer. It’s kinda weird, but it’s true. If you don’t like the video you just put out, your viewers will sense it. When you make a short term play and create a video just for the money, your viewers will know and we’ve seen countless YouTube creators who’ve been burned by that. So listen to your gut – that inner voice that tells you whether it’s super excited about the video you made, or not, and don’t put anything out that you’re not absolutely in love with.
