My No-Stress YouTube Tech Setup (for Non-Techy Creators)

Real talk: I am not a tech person. But you can’t grow on YouTube without learning some basics. After years of trial-and-error (and wasting money on gear that complicated my life), I finally have a simple, reliable setup I can run solo—no videographer, no tech assistant. Here’s exactly what I use, what I use it for, and why it makes filming easier.

I’m Erika Vieira—YouTube strategist and coach to 2,000+ women creators. This is the gear I recommend to clients when they want pro results without the tech headache.

Interview & Podcast Audio

RØDE Podcast Mic + RØDE Overhead Arm
It’s sturdy, quiet, and worth paying a bit more for. The cheaper arms I tried either sagged, squeaked, or broke. I plug this mic straight into my computer for interviews and live sessions. When it comes to sound quality, this setup never fails.

Webcam for Interviews, Lives & Zoom

Logitech 4K Webcam
Crisp, easy, and dependable. I use it for client calls and live classes. Please don’t rely on your laptop webcam—it’s not doing you any favors. This Logitech gives you a clean, professional look in two minutes of setup time.

B-Roll & Vlogging Camera

DJI Gimbal Camera (Creator Kit)
Small, discreet, and it follows your movements. Perfect for vlogging and B-roll. The app lets me monitor the shot from my phone, grab thumbnail photos, and control it remotely. I don’t use it for talking-head videos, but for capturing lifestyle or movement footage, it’s unbeatable.

Wireless Mic for Talking-Head or Movement Shots

RØDE Wireless Mic
You can clip it to your shirt with the magnet or set it on your desk pointing toward you. It’s compact, portable, and delivers excellent sound. This is the one I recommend to clients who move around a lot in their videos—fashion creators, vloggers, coaches, anyone who films solo.

Main Lighting Setup

Lume Cube Two-Light Kit (with Carrying Case)
After years of trying every cheap light setup imaginable, this is the first one I truly love. It’s portable, quick to set up, battery-powered or plug-in, and everything comes in one case. Within five minutes, you can have a beautiful, professional lighting setup anywhere you film.

Teleprompter for Scripted Videos

Elgato Teleprompter + Camera Hub App
I don’t use a teleprompter for every video, but when I film deep dives or creator analyses, it saves me so much time. It’s easy to set up, reliable, and pairs beautifully with most cameras.

Optional Upgrade: A foot pedal to control scroll speed hands-free. It’s not essential, but once you try it, you’ll never go back.

Main Camera & Support Gear

Sony ZV-1 (Original Model)
It’s compact, reliable, and perfect for creators filming solo. I’m planning to upgrade to the newer version, which allows interchangeable lenses, but even this older one performs beautifully.

Essentials You Can’t Forget

Always have extra SD cards and charged spare batteries on hand. Running out of storage or power mid-filming is one of the most frustrating things that can happen. I’ve been there—and now I keep backups in my camera case at all times.
