Why Most Fashion YouTubers FAIL with Anna Reid
“I feel like I’m living my dream…I will take these problems that I have right now with YouTube over any of the problems I’ve dealt with in the past.”
Anna Reid has built a successful YouTube channel helping women develop personal style that works for their lives and personalities while keeping them current on the latest trends. With a finance degree from Stetson University, Anna’s path took an unexpected turn during what she calls a “quarter life crisis” in her twenties, when she took courses at Parsons in NYC before fully committing to the fashion industry. Since 2005, she has worked in fashion and apparel, eventually opening her own beachwear boutique in 2011. When not focused on fashion, Anna channels her passion for travel, always planning her next adventure.
In our recent interview, Anna shared insights about her transition from boutique ownership to YouTube success. Despite the significant behind-the-scenes work, she finds fulfillment in creating content for her audience. For Anna, who has created a niche in fashion content particularly resonant with women over 40, building her channel required tremendous perseverance through challenges including time-consuming editing, sponsorship pressures, and the surprisingly isolating nature of content creation.
“I’m glad that I pushed through it because like everybody else, I’ve done lots of things in my life where I gave up too soon or just quit because it got really hard.”
Key Takeaways:
- Persistence is non-negotiable: Pushing through difficult periods was essential to Anna’s success.
- Content creation is time-intensive: The editing process takes far longer than viewers realize.
- Finding your niche is crucial: Specializing in fashion for women over 40 helped Anna stand out.
- YouTube can be isolating: The lonely nature of content creation was an unexpected challenge.
- Financial planning matters: Strategic approach to sponsorships and finances ensures long-term sustainability.
- Consistency with boundaries: Regular content is important, but breaks are necessary to prevent burnout.
- Passion sustains the journey: Anna’s genuine love for fashion and helping others drives her continued commitment to her channel.
