What do you wish you knew when you first started your channel?
How to edit. So much trial and error, that’s all I could pin it down to. When I first started is when I made the most videos, when I was not a professional. I would rapid-fire make videos and want to upload them all in one day but I spaced it out in a couple of weeks.
Now it takes so much longer to edit a video now that I know what I’m doing. Funny how that happens. I have become such a perfectionist and spend a week or two just editing one video.
It takes me upwards of 6-8 hours for one video. It takes a long time. I guess I’ve been doing this all day long. But, its worth it.
Best tip for increasing subscriber base:
If you want to grow your channel you need to keep your content updated. You need to keep your videos popular and make them of things people are currently interested. It’s such a quickly changing business that if you don’t move with it, you are going to be left behind.
I would rather have more views than subscribers. If my subscribers are more than my views then it means that not all of my subscribers are watching my videos. If I have more views than subscribers it means that all of my subscribers are watching my videos in addition to other people which would be really exciting.
It’s not about the number of subscribers it’s about the quality of subscribers and I think that I have ones that are really dedicated to watching my videos and ones that I love talking to and I wouldn’t trade them for higher views anyway.
What is the one piece of advice you would give someone starting a YouTube channel?
Pick anything that you are interested in and work as hard as you possibly can on that interest and show it off to the world. If it’s something that you are truly and confidently interested in ten other people will feel the exact same way.
Take the time that you have and really enjoy what you are doing right now. If there is something you are interested in then just do it now, there is no point in waiting. Sometimes people have passions and they do it later in life, start now. You don’t know where it is going to take you.
