5 Key Interview Takeaways
- Redefine the word “expert”. As long as you know enough to help someone who’s further behind on their journey than you are, then you are an expert. You don’t need to be the queen of the hill with a yacht and private jet to be able to give people sound advice to help them solve their problems. So if you’re doubting yourself or think you’re not successful enough, throw that away. People need you.
- Engage with other people’s content. Especially on LinkedIn, being a great member of the community and engaging in other people’s content benefits you directly and indirectly. Directly because that comment will show up on your feed for all your connections and followers to see, so they can chime in and give your page even more engagement. And indirectly because, it’s a nice thing to do and people will appreciate you for it. If you can’t spend an hour engaging, spend at least 20 minutes a day giving to the community and you’ll reap real rewards.
- A smart way to connect with Brands on LinkedIn. Judi gave us a cool tip for connecting with brands on LinkedIn. One, it’s hard to fake that you work at a company on LinkedIn so when you see someone who works there, you can be pretty sure its legit. But search for the company you’re interested in, then look at the people tab, you’ll a ton of people who work there, or worked there in the past. Build a list of the ones who work there who are the most active – posting regularly, commenting regularly, liking stuff, etc. Those are the people who you want to follow, start engaging with and eventually connect to. Then when the connection is made, build a real relationship. It’s much easier to start talking business because that’s what the platform is meant for. Just don’t be pushy.
- Repurpose your YouTube videos on LinkedIn. Another awesome tip from Judi is to make snippets of your YouTube videos or record a whole separate video just for LinkedIn, telling people the value they’ll receive from the video you want them to watch. Then you drop the link to the YouTube video in the comments, not the main copy. The idea here is to pitch your audience with something that will be interesting to them so that will entice them to head to the comments to find your link and watch your video.
- Reverse engineer what’s working and do that. Head over to Judi’s LinkedIn and look at her profile and the other LinkedIn superstars she’s connected to. Then look at everything they’re doing that’s getting them tons of views and engagement. Chances are, it’s getting them clients as well. Are there parts you can use as inspiration for your content and your approach. Find what’s working and reverse engineer it and go make your LinkedIn an awesome space!
