Behind the scenes: Getting Noticed By Brands
I was super excited to get Mindy for the show. We met at a beauty event and I was taken by her enthusiasm and energy and sheer support of the influencer. We connected immediately and knew in some way we wanted to work together. When asked if she wnted to come on the show, she enthusiastically said yes, but on one condition, we kept her anonymous. I was ok with that, because I wanted her to be as open and honest as possible when it came to this crucial subject. Mindy definitely delivered. She answered questions I personally had been wondering about as well as questions I get emailed and tweeted repeatedly. How do you work with an influencer? How do I get brands to find me? How do I get noticed by brands? Her answers didn’t really surprise me. Communication is key, being professional is important and allows you to stand out amongst the crowd. The quote “Its very important to remember there is someone on the other side who is sending you these products and advocating for your support.” in my opinion was SPOT ON. If you are fortunate enough to be sought out by a brand, treat that relationship like gold. How do you do that? Just as Mindy suggested, communicating, sending a thank you, calling, keeping them updated on what you are working on.
She is open to working with smaller influencers, which was interesting to me, given how popular and large the brand she works with is. BUT, as she mentioned, they are pretty selective. They are looking for someone who is up and coming, shows a genioine interst in the brand (she mentioned that a bunch of times which makes me believe its super important) and is doing something different and unique. Those are great things to think about if you are a smaller influencer but want to get noticed by the big guys.
Some great quotes:
Its very important to remember there is someone on the other side who is sending you these products and advocating for your support.
The power of social media and how fast things move these days completely changes the ball game.
We are pretty selective but at the same time its not always about your following but the content you create too. If you have a few thousand followers but I can see that your content is curated, executed really well and on top of that I can see that you are an avid supporter of the brand, you are going to get my attention.
Communication is key especially in this digital age.
In a land full of people doing a lot of the same things, it says something about someone who takes a leap ahead of the pack and breaks the mold.
Questions to ask yourself this week:
- Am I focusing my efforts on trying to attract a few select brands and showing them my genuine interest?
- What is my superpower (what makes me special and unique) and is there a video/post that hasn’t been done before that I can do. OR is there something out there I can put a (really) unique spin on to get noticed?
Lets chat it out. . What did you think about the interview? Any tips you picked up from Mindy or things you’ve done to be noticed by brands that have worked?
